My husband and I are considering relocating to Bend from Colorado. I am a first year elementary school teacher and I am concerned about the possibility of a job if I move. Does anyone know if elementary teaching positions are difficult to find in Bend? Are there other communities with commuting distance to Bend that would be easy to find a job?

Any other information about the school district would be helpful. I have checked out their website, but this doesn't give me a feel for what teachers think. I currently work at a title school where teachers are overwhelmed with duties and have very little planning time. I am looking for a supportive district with supportive parents.

Lava Ridge Elementary is one of the best elementary schools in the nation. I have 16 clients that have had their kids attend and they could not be happier. there are others but it sounds like you are doing your homework... I highly recomend checking this one out....
Let me know if I can help more...
Jim

In addition to the Bend-LaPine school district that you have been researching, within driving distance of Bend you could also check out schools in Sisters and Redmond

It's about 15 miles from Bend (north) to Redmond - approximately 20 minutes' drive and approx. 22 miles to Sisters, about a half hour away. The road from Bend to Redmond is Highway 97, and Highway 20 is between Bend and Sisters. Both are well maintained. Sisters is a very small town with a significant tourist draw due to an annual quilt show, an annual rodeo and lots of boutique shops. It is more expensive housing-wise than Bend and is close to the mountains on the way west to Santiam Pass and the HooDoo ski area. Redmond is smaller than Bend but has also grown alot these past few years. It is somewhat less expensive than Bend for housing and is further away from the mountains.
