My Neice in Redmond is getting tired of hauling water to the horses. Frozen Pipes Again.

Thanks Hawk J! I wish they were a little younger to really enjoy the snow. We had to dig out an area for them. They both have arthritis & it's hard for them to deal with this deep snow.

Whirnot & coniferian, I remember the blizzard of '82! I was 6 & my dad & the neighbor dug a path out between our houses so us kids could get to each others houses to play! I think it was for our parent's sanity!

I actually drove my RX-7 from Aspen to eastern Colorado on Xmas morning during that blizzard. I happen to get behind a Toyota 4WD that had the same wheel stance. You could not see to the sides due to the snow banks. Had I ever stopped I would have spent days right there.

But believe it or not, I have seen bigger snows. One storm about 10 years ago dropped 5 feet at our cabin in Red Feather lakes. It took me 2 1/2 hours to get a walking path up out 250 foot driveway with a snowblower.

BUT I STILL LOVE THE SNOW!

In March 2003 (probably whirnot's storm) we got 7 1/2 FEET of snow over three days in Conifer CO. Fortunately we didn't lose electric power or we wouldn't have had water or phone. You couldn't see out of the windows. I had to dig down to the roof of our Blazer - I have a shot of the roof rack under my snowshoes. Ran out of gas for the snowblower. It took Jefferson County three days to dig us out with an articulated frontend loader. When the snow slid off our metal roof, it took out all our chimneys and vent pipes, collapsed the upper deck, which fell and destroyed the lower deck. Insurance covered it all, thankfully. Some people had their roofs and/or garages collapse from the weight.

That is crazy! No wonder you wanted to move.

I agree that is crazy, I love snow but 7-1/2' !

That is too much for a place to live, save that for the ski resorts not a full time residence.

I would like to see pictures of that storm ..

Having interest/curiosity about the drought and the recent storms/precipitation, I found this; Oregon SNOTEL Snow/Precipitation Update Report , looks like it was last updated on Feb. 11 2014. Going to keep an eye on it to see how significant these systems have been in terms of mitigating water scarcity for the region.

UPPER DESCHUTES, CROOKED
ELEV. snow water equiv. water year-to-date precip.
current median %median current average %average
(in) (in) (in) (in) (in) (in)

SNOW MOUNTAIN 6230 3.4 7.6 45 7.9 13.8 57
DERR. 5850 5.4 10.8 50 8.4 15.0 56

OCHOCO MEADOWS 5430 4.9 7.7 64 8.2 14.7 56

These are a few samples from the cite for a base reference as they are certain to change as the cite updates.

Well i cannot get the format to hold shape, so it is crammed together
