December was similar to December 1973, not record cold but pretty cold. I think I remember -13 degrees F. in Salem in '73. The rest of the winter so far has looked a lot like 1976, when the rains never came. In 1977, Bull Run ran dry, wells ran dry all over the west coast, and the Willamette was 80 degrees with almost no flow. With the extra million people since then, water conservation measures could be extreme if it doesn't start raining soon.

San Francisco is still in fire season, if that gives you an idea of how dry it has been.

2013 was one of the driest years on record. Deschutes County currently between abnormally dry and moderate drought.

That map will be looking even worse if the pattern doesn't change soon.

I would gladly send you some of the VA rains of this past year. We had over 42" here at my house last year! above our average of 35-38" in the region.

I will be following and watching the Mt Bachelor/ Crater Lake sites to see if things start changing this week. Hope so... though nothing looks heavy at this point.

Yup, it's been a pretty mild winter, once again. Considering the conditions on the mountain right now, I don't feel so terrible about having to apply for a pass refund. I sure hope the mountains get some moisture soon or it's going to be a bad fire season!

I was there in September for the early season snow and then again in December for the arctic blast...

so now if we are able to move to Bend this summer be prepared for a bad winter next year... bad weather seems to follow me wherever I go... LOL

It is interesting, that there are a couple of places where the snow levels are just fine. Growing up in Ski country I have seen many times that a season can turn around in a matter of a few weeks. Lets hope this is the case.

Colorado is getting quite a bit of early snow, I would guess that is all related, seems when the weather patterns favor the PNW, the Rockies suffer, and vice versa.
