I could be missing something here but I think Steve was implying that it was absurd to compare Portland to Central and Eastern Oregon. I'm at a loss to understand how the experiences of a Caucasian wandering those areas applies to other ethnic groups.

In any case, I guess I was trying to get a feel for how welcome myself and my family will feel in Bend. It appears (based on previous visits and the responses I have received) that we are making a wonderful choice in choosing Bend as our new home.

And yes ' Coniferian' I still have my British Accent.
Cheerio for now

Evidently you and Steve, both, have difficulty with reading and comprehension. It is also apparent the you both are helplessly cynical and enjoy playing the part of provocateur. I explained my perspective and how I gained such, perhaps, if you reread what I posted after taking the blinders off, you will come to understand.

I will offer one word for you to ponder in hope that it will gain you comprehension on the matter: observation.

Anyways...Bend is a big melting pot of transplants from all over the US. Still mainly Caucasian but people are friendly to everyone I have seen.

Bend used to be 100% Conservative, but it is changing as it gets overrun with Californians and "Close to the Earth" types.

When I used to do a lot of rockhounding back in the sixties it was not uncommon to see individuals with a sidearm walking about town.

Steve,
Since we know that you don't actually live there, I thought I might enlighten you.

Steve clearly knows more about the surrounding areas of Central and Eastern Oregon than most here.

And he is right, Bend really is different than the rest of Central and Eastern Oregon.
