I'm relatively new to the area and am amazed by the, to me, good weather. Back in Colorado I'd be up to my armpits in snow in March. In 2003 in our area we had 7 1/2 feet of wet snow over three days. So, is this an aberrant weather pattern for C.O.? I've read here that spring doesn't start until June but yesterday I rode my 38 year old motorcycle over to Cline Butte and it sure felt spring-like to me - 60+ degrees in Redmond. We have tulips coming up. If this continues I'm going to put away my parka and oil up the lawnmower.

Yes. This winter has been very mild. With some luck maybe summer will start in June this year!

I'm just glad not to have snow on the ground.

I'm coming up on 6 years here in Bend, and spring is usually the hardest month for me. We don't necessarily get a lot of snow (in town-the Cascades are a different story), but rain is more common. Temperatures so far seem warmer than what I've experienced. Usually it seems as though we are in the 40s and 50s, and overcast more often than sunny. It is definitely milder than the Colorado mountains though!

I was doing my Ben Franklin impersonation, with a Nikon rather than a key, before the rain started here in Redmond.

That is a really cool shot. Good thing there was no lightning or you might have a toasty camera!

Hope you wear heavy rubber gloves on days like that!

No thunder or lightning and the line was dry, so I figured I was as safe as anyone standing in an empty field could be. Made it back home before the rain started. I also shot some video with a GoPro, which I haven't watched yet.

Coniferian, up near Bachelor is a place called Dutchman Flats. You might be able to get some very cool pics of the mountains from there. How much wind do you need to get the kite up and what is too much?

10 - 15 mph is ideal. Less than that the kite won't lift the rig and more than that can cause a "delta death dive". Out at Smith Rock today I crashed half a dozen times before I decided it was too gusty to put the camera rig up. Shot a couple panoramics with my GoPro from the ground. I'll check out Dutchman Flats on Google Earth - thanks.
