Our family is considering moving to NW Bend from Corvallis. We have been very happy here but love the mountains and climate of central Oregon. Our biggest concern is that we have a daughter who will be entering the 8th grade. We are curious about what we can expect from the schools and what the general student body is like. We will most likely enroll her in Cascade Middle School and eventually Summit High School. We are hoping we can find a the same kind of educated and supportive community we have here. Any thoughts would be really appreciated. Thanks

The schools mentioned can be clicky with many affluent kids and the culture that comes with that.

Corvallis is rumored to have a very good school system.

Any school in Bend is absolutely fine for any student who actually does the class work. If you are a concerned parent who makes sure that your child attends classes, behaves properly, and does his homework, your kid will do just fine and get a perfectly good education.

Do the individual schools publish their truancy rate? Wouldn't NW Bend 8th graders go to Pacific Crest Middle School?

Thank you for your comments. I didn't consider looking into truancy rates. I believe you are right, Pacific Crest Middle School would be the closest to Summit. After considering some of our options, I think Seven Peaks may be a good choice for us. I like that it is small and holds the students to high standards. Does anyone have any experience with this school?

Our daughter has attended REALMS Middle School in Bend for all three years...it's been an amazing experience for her. I highly recommend it! It's a small magnet school that emphasizes holistic learning through outdoor projects and field trips. You have to apply but even if your daughter isn't accepted she'll be put on a waiting list.
