I'm a Vet and planning on moving to the Big island and would like to know how is the VA on the Big Island? Are other Vets happy with the VA?

I don't know much, just that there is no VA Hospital here... only a community based non-federal outpatient clinic.

There is a VA CBOC in both Hilo and Kona.

Default Hilo VA CBOC

Hilo CBOC is the absolute worst VA care I have received in the last 10 years. I've been to what is in my opinion the best, which is San Diego, La Jolla. The Doctors have the air of omnipotence and the staff takes there cue from them. If you can establish care anywhere but at Hilo, I would do it. If you are already on a narcotic, they will look at you like you are an addict before they even meet you (they will view your chart and form there opinion then).

You have been warned!!!

My husband had VA services from the Kona clinic for the 10 years we lived there, and he said it was "good" service. He was happy with it, and it ranked up there with other places we've lived and their services. He's always lived in pretty rural towns until this year, however.
