Hello I just wanted to get on a forum to talk to other people from Pahoa and say hi since I am moving there in a week from California. My husband is from Hawaii and has wanted to take us home for quite some time now and now we are going. We are very excited, my kids are enrolled in the Hawaii Arts and Sciences Academy in Pahoa and we have our house and everything is set. :-) We are also Photographers and Web Developers and we are bringing our craft to the Island. We want to meet new people and get to know everyone so. :-)

Aloha Joanna,

You may want to look for "PunaWeb" which is a forum based out of Puna/Pahoa so you'll be able to "meet" a lot of folks in the area. Pahoa is an interesting funky little town plus it's been becoming "gentrified" (well, not exactly perhaps as they use the term on the mainland, but it's getting cleaned up from where it was several decades ago). There is a small shopping area out there and they've been working on a Longs drug store and it opened about a year ago perhaps it was. I don't get out that way much, but we are going on Monday to get some chickens since Pahoa feed store is one of the few that brings in day old chicks from the mainland during the off season.

Which subdivision is your new house in? Each one of the subs has it's own character and on that corner of the island, they are usually full of characters, too.

A hui hou,
Catz

Welcome to Pahoa! Many of the subdivisions here have their own websites and community centers where you can meet your neighbors and find out what's going on. Just Google the sub. name and it should come up. Makuu farmers market is a good place to mingle and meet, you'll see the whole spectrum of Puna people. It can be very entertaining. Bring your umbrellas!

Yup, Leilaniguy is a great Punatic! He knows loads about the area and can help with any particular Pahoa questions you can come up with.
