Looking for others to share a private plane leaving Michigan to the Big Island in 4 months or so. I have 2 dogs and I do not want to go cargo with them.

Default it's expensive

I looked into this a bit last year. We are still hoping to make the move, but our plans have been put on hold for another year or so. The cost of a private( 8 passenger ) jet from LA to the Big Island would be around $45,000. I could see paying $5,000 for my wife and I , and our dog, but I doubt you could find enough people with the same schedule to fill a flight. However, if you want to pay the other $40,000, we are ready to go when you are . :>)

You did see that Alaska lets them fly in the cabin with you, right? Cargo is no longer the only way.

Why not just use Pacific Air Cargo? LAX to HNL. The pets sit inside the cabin area, right behind the pilots. They ship pets back/forth all the time and the flights leave late at night. No heat issues.

But of course, only for animals that go into a carrier that fits under the seat.

FYI- Alaska Airlines ONLY allows dogs or cats in the cabin. No birds or other animals.

Pacific Air Cargo does not transport birds, and do not return phone calls or answer emails.

Since you are leaving in 4 months, you HAVE sent in the blood draw for the titer test, right?

As others have mentioned a lot of us would be willing to pay for such a service, but the max any "normal" family seems to be able to afford is about 5k. Unless some person with exceptional means steps up the plates, we're all stuck with cargo as our only option.

I'd be interested, except the cost is way too much. Our dogs are small, will fit in Sherpa bags under the seat in front of us. We have already arranged for the vet in Kona to handle their direct release after their titers are 120 days old. In fact, they go for their titers at our vet down here on Monday morning. We're looking early August for our move.

Just to amplify...your dogs will be quarantined if you do not have ALL the paperwork complete, and a vet ready to inspect the dogs when you arrive.

Uprightgirl and I have been exchanging PMs, and she has the contact info for the Kona vet who handles direct release. She's the vet we will be using. That vet is very helpful and will ensure she has her paperwork in order.
