container cost (price, beach, vehicle)

I've seen many threads about sharing containers, pods, etc., but I haven't seen anyone cite the actual cost of a container from oakland or long beach to hilo. Anyone done it recently who would care to share? Or not so recently?

There's a great search feature here that allows you to dig into the archives for information you're interested in. For a quick peak I searched on the keyword "container" and limited the search to the Hawai'i forum and it's Child forums (the individual islands. There were 357 hits... I grabbed the first one that mentioned cost of coming this way, since the cost shipping the other direction is different, and the difference between ports is negligible from west coast to islands.

Here 'tis:

"The cost... at this point.. door to door is $2608.00 for the 20' container .. not a bad price and $1074.00 for our vehicle (even if we stuffed it in the container it would still cost an additional $1074.00)."

Darn, how'd you do that?! I thought I searched the same thing! I was hesitant to call Matson and give them my phone number (feel that way about anyone really) but I suppose it won't kill me! Thanks!

The people at Matson are very nice and helpful. You don't have to worry about calling them. We called them many times during our move,and they were always pleasant.
