Talking Moving to Hilo...Help!!

Aloha,

My impulsive decisions led me to sell everything i own and buy a one way ticket to Hilo. I've done a lot of research about hilo, and found lots of jobs in the local paper, but have yet to have any one respond. I have experience in banking, retail sales, retail and food management, etc. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get a job in Hilo?? I arrive in 4 weeks, maybe i'm sending my resume too early?? Also, i've found apts for around $800 a month. Does it get any cheaper than that I'm buying a car when i get there. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Mahalo

please check out some of the other hawai'i posts regarding your questions. some posters have said that most employers will not even look at your resume unless you are physically on island.

You will likely have better luck if you are able to submit your resume in person and with a Hawaii address.

If you can, do a short term rental first and then look carefully at the locations of the apartments you are considering renting. Get a good feel for the neighborhoods first. You may want to look into renting a house outside town--depends on your commute to work and your personal preferences. Hope it all works out for you!

I don't think you're going to hear back from the OP, Deb. They made one only post on this forum...the one above...4-1/2 years ago.

Not sure you'll get an answer right away, as mtnboi83 hasn't posted since 2007, kani-lehu hasn't posted since 2009, and cynmkolohe hasn't posted since January.

But as I recall cynmkolohe was in Hilo a while and then moved up to Waimea area.
