That is probably the same ad, it appeared on the 19th and 24th tribune-herald.

We not only drink wine in Hawai'i, we make wine in Hawai'i. The southernmost winery in the US is located in the Volcano Country Club area, just off the Belt Highway (11), mauka the Volcanoes National Park.

For that matter, we also brew good beers in Hawaii, as well as making rum on Maui, and it mixes well with fruit juices for all manner of tropical beverages.

For instance, Braddah Kimo's 151 proof rum, sold only in the islands... and you can't pack it in your luggage because it is a fire hazard. So you have to drink it here.
Haleakala Distillers - Hawaiian Craft Distillery Making Award-Winning Rums, Maui Hawaii

And another "premium" line...

- Old Lahaina Rum -

And rumor has it that there's a guy on Maui who can hook you up with authentic okole'hao, the traditional Hawaiian "moonshine" made from fermented roots of the ti plant. Just look for a guy driving a wood-fired Covina Yellow sports car, with a kind of personal cloud of "vog" around him at all times.

I thought maybe Fizzy Bear believes that all we drink here in Hawaii is Mai Tais.

Or maybe Kava?

You always have interesting info OpenD,. I might have to try Hawaiian rum on my next visit. Your comment about not taking alcohol in luggage has me wondering, it seems like half the stuff in the duty free zones of airports is booze.

On Lanai they'd core a couple of pineapples out in the fields and put okolehau in them and let them sort of get infused with okolehau. Whoo. Good stuff although half the guys in the group would then spend most of the night out trying to shoot turkeys with a bow and arrow. No turkeys were ever harmed in this effort, although they did seem to do it annually.

Some of the wine up in Volcano is made of strange tropical fruit, too. Jaboticaba among others. Tasty, though.

At the moment, we are drinking banana smoothies, I suppose a dash of rum wouldn't harm them any but there's so many bananas around here all of a sudden we are drinking them in self defense. We are going to have to call out the vegetarians at the end of the road to come save us. Hmm, rum is a vegetable, isn't it?
