Mileka Lincoln posted on Facebook this AM a photo of lava starting to flow against the berm. Mr. Lee still has his dozer parked right there, so I assume he will continue the fight.

Default Offerings being made to Madame Pele

https://www.facebook.com/milekalincoln.hnn

Mileka Lincoln (KHNL, Hawaii News Now reporter, who is on-site in Pahoa) has reported that there are offerings being made to Madame Pele near the potential road crossing in Pahoa Village.

If you don't have a facebook account, here is her latest entry. You will need to click on the above link to see her pictures.

Quote:
As the #PunaLavaFlow slowly approaches, people have been paying their respects for Pele by leaving ho‘okupu for her outside the barricades that have gone up to provide safety & privacy for the residents along Pāhoa Village Road. We've seen offerings at several different locations in recent days. The flow is still approximately 500 feet away from the road & officials say it is barely inching along right now. #MalamaPono

She also mentions:

Quote:
Experts say the slowdown is typical of pahoehoe lava -- which moves in fits and starts. HVO scientists say when it inflates, it thickens over time -- especially as lava is feed into the flow front but isn't released through small lobes. That continues until a new breakout forms -- causing it to deflate, which will fuel the outbreak and push it forward.

Unfortunately, in their zeal to get a story, there are some that are overstepping the bounds of decency and respect for the people that live here.

Just this evening, a producer got upset when he approached a local landowner in a restaurant (the land is by the transfer station on Apa'a Street) refused him permission to go on the land and film. The producer even offered cash. The landowner responded back with a very angry, "This is not a museum nor a zoo. We are not on display for you. We live here." The producer then started getting very snippy and arrogant. He was then thrown out of the local restaurant.

Flow front still stalled, but breakouts further up slope are widening.

Lava flow stalls, breakouts closely monitored - Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL

Quote:
The flow continues to remain active however has not advanced since yesterday. The flow front remains 480 feet from Pahoa Village Road.

The front continues to show signs of widening with breakouts along the flanks or margins and is approximately 60 yards wide.
A new breakout located upslope from the flow front on the north side is active and advancing in a northeast direction and will be monitored closely. Additional breakouts above the Apa?a street area along the north side of the flow are also being monitored closely.

Default Front not advancing, but breakouts still upslope

Two straight days with no flow fron advancement. Good news on that part, anyway.

I, for one, am not waiting for disaster. I'm praying for all of you and for Pele not to cross the road. Hang tight! <3

I was in Pahoa Village this evening, stopping in both Luquin's and Blackrock. Busy, busy! Hope these nice places keep getting business before they may be forced to close.
