That makes no sense at all - suicide is tame compared to all the nastiness in Hawaii that does get reported. Homelessness, sharks , gun deaths, telescope protesting, drownings, drugs, dengue fever, and on and on and on - by your theory, none of the before mentioned wouldn't be on the news either. Suicide isn't particularly newsworthy in comparison.

Some police are reluctant to have a death classified as a suicide for fear of harming the family of the deceased. While most life insurance policies do pay in instances of suicide, they will only pay if the policy has been in effect for 2-3 years (depends on carrier). And if an old policy is modified (like buying into the next "term" or increasing coverage, etc) the 2-3 year cycle starts over again. So if the coroner says somebody died by falling off a cliff and if the officer has to determine if they were pushed, they fell, or they jumped, absent a suicide note being mailed to the newspaper, or a murder suspect, in most cases they fell. The smaller the town and the higher likelihood of the police knowing the family (or even being closely or distantly related) decreases the chances of suicide being an option.

Actually Dave, Star hit pretty close to the money with me....
I came down with Stage III cancer 3 years ago.... was robbed of my health and strength for two years, it has taken me 1.5 years after that to just gain back my weight (was down to 114lbs, I was a 190lb 5'10" male).
Before the big C I was retired military (24yrs Air Force) working on as a contractor on C-130's for $26 an hour. I can no longer work on them... physical restraints (can no longer lift 50lbs).... chemo craps your memory functions (1yr of chemo treatments), and also depletes your white blood cells which carry nutrients to your bones (I now have Osteoporosis and fractured a vertebrae in my back) to the tune of I now have the fragility of a 75 year old woman, I'm a 57 year old male.
Robbed of my health and my short term memory, I still will do what needs to be done to move and function in society.
I plan to move to the Big Island to help with my new attitude on life and live like there is no tomorrow.... because there might not be.
I'm not sure how old you are.... but sounding like you are in your mid 30's... I sure hope you stay healthy.... because like Star says.... it only takes one instance of major health to slow you down......
