This incident was covered in this thread: Making friends with your new neighbors in Hawaii

And NO, this is not "normal". People put up a lot of no trespassing signs because there is a mistaken belief it is a requirement if you don't want people on your property.

The punaweb server is running old software and gets glitchy sometimes. That's probably why it spit out an erroneous message while trying to sign up. They always accept new members. The email system doesn't work, so if you try to send a private message there, the recipient won't get it.

There are some Vietnam vets living in Puna who suffer from PTSD and the out-of-shape bully ("Andy") is probably one of them. According to the "coconut wireless," the dispute was finally settled when "Andy" (who happened to be a renter) moved to another house several blocks away. A more current instance of someone with PTSD acting up is "Castle John" of Kalapana Seaview Estates...

He was found guilty on Friday, calling the jury "soulless people!, soulless people". Before he left the courtroom he whispered he had petitioned the United Nations for asylum. He could get ten years. Now that's a real Punatic.

It's been that way over 40 years, wild and crazy, but it's why I chose to live here. Ever hear of Mother Earth News? There used to be classifieds running in every issue in the '70's for "Land and cabins in Puna Hawaii, Cheap! Lots of Mother Earth types around". There still are.

What's even crazier is that the judge didn't have "Castle John" locked up for "contempt of court."

And, it's not the first time that he's acted up in court…

I want to see the antenna hat. Here's the castle he built. Pretty good, for a mad man.

The "Castle House" was pretty nice way back in 2008 and "Castle John" possessed more of his faculties then. Unfortunately, he did a whole lot of drugs after divorcing his wife and opened up the place to homeless druggies and lowlifes who trashed it. One of the folks staying at "Castle John's" was accused of killing a woman in Hilo last year…

I would be interested in seeing factual, objective information though.
