Yeah, we wish they would! Save ever so much on welfare if we could send them back. There's the ever present rumor that some shelters on the mainland send their unwanteds over here. Never heard it proved as true, but it does seem to be a recurring rumor.

Well, all froth aside, it seems to me the OP is kinda jumping off into the unknown and a lot of the bluster we see could probably be nervousness. He will probably be a whole lot different when and if anyone meets face to face.
This is the internet after all, folks can be whoever they want behind their keyboards, but when it gets down to living off in Puna, well, there's not a 'reality' key on the keyboard to cover it, now is there? We will see how it all goes, hopefully, or perhaps it will be just another OP that vanishes off into the mist.

It wasn't just a rumor awhile back in California;
I told this story before, a friend was a Social Worker in Marin, California in 1969...they were telling all the guys and girls on General Assistance that Hawaii (Oahu) paid the highest welfare bennies and Food Stamps than any other State and the surfing was excellent.
People were getting off the planes and heading to the Welfare office in Honolulu, then thumbing their way up to the North Shore, were they set up camps in fields and stole the Locals chickens and eggs, and raided their vegetable patches
My Uncle, a retired physician,who lived on the North Shore, attested to this..he later moved to Kauai and established a private Social Service Clinic, he was happier treating Locals than freeloading transients from the Mainland.
Except for the food stamps. That, I'm afraid, is leeching.
