Aloha all,

I'm in the middle of getting an unpermitted part of my house permitted. The house sale came with all the drafted plans with the architect stamp, drafter stamp, signed off plumber permit application and signed off electrician application. I've been going back and forth with the county Planning department trying to get all my papers in. So far so good! They are happy to answer questions and are very helpful.

Unfortunately, the drafting company is out of business and I need to have the plans updated to reflect my name. The stamp is in cursive, so it's either JT Drafting, JL Drafting, or something like that. The phone number leads me to Cole Custom Drafting in Hilo. How can I update the plans with my name when the business is no longer? The architect is helpful but doesn't have the plans, he just did placement for beams and structure. He did offer to sign at the county office but doesn't have any plans on file.

It is a very well done unpermitted part of the house so I'm not too worried about it passing building inspections and getting permitted. I'm just not that familiar with the process. Mahalo everyone, I appreciate your time!

Michelle

Draftsmen don't have stamps that matter, their input is only the drawing. The only stamps that matter are from the architect and engineers.

To update the name on the plans - since the drafting company is gone - print the new information out on a piece of paper and tape or glue it over the existing name on the plans. Or cross out the old data and write in the new name. Ask the Planning Department if that would be acceptable to them, it should be.
