A quaker is not a member of the conure family , I love quakers I had three of them in my family until i got sick and had to re home them . I love em cause they are so funny and very comical and they can be one of the sweetest birds in the world . I hope to God that the drs tell me I can own a bird again .. if not well then I can enjoy the wild birds .

True, a Quaker is not a member of the Conure family, but it has many characteristics very similiar to conures and its size and look is also closely resemble the conures. Other than the fact that it builts nest, great talking ability, and has no eye rings, it's pretty much a conure.

All I know about Quakers is that they are illegal here in Mass. Sounds like a nice bird.

Quakers are fantastic pets, especially domestic, hand-fed babies. I had one for several years. Here in Florida, there are many wild flocks that were accidentally introduced to the environment several years ago and they thrive in our climate. Very noisy, but incredible personalities.

That's why they are outlawed here. The story goes that a shipment of Quakers to NYC accidently got busted open and the rest is history. Apparently the Quakers "pillaged" farms (when we had more agriculture than skyscapers) so the farmers got them banned.

Maybe that's where the Fla. ones came from too, dontaskwhy.

The Florida ones were accidentally released mostly in the Miami and Tampa areas. They are definitely not a native species, but they do like the climate. They breed fast and build huge colony nests from native trees and vegetation. They are outlawed in more than a couple of states.

i also heard of a group in florida that takes the babys when the Florida Power and Light company was knocking the birds nests out onto the ground and the group[ was protesting and rightly so . They killed hundreds of babys in the process. So now the fpl calls the group when they are getting ready to clean up power poles and remove nests and this group finds the babys homes . I love the quakers and I miss them not having my babies in my house but got sick and can no longer have any kind of bird .

Default most comical...

My Quaker, Toby, was the most comical creature I had ever owned. Need to rehome him when we moved to Hawaii as they are not allowed here for some reason...anyway... he would swing, upside down' as often as he could and just 'giggle' and 'giggle' and say..'this is a hoot'....LOLOL... he was a crack up... and then his little soft 'night night' was so reassuring...I miss him.
