bi-racial family looking to relocate (Montgomery, Huntsville: unemployment, buy, living in)

Pitboss, I'd be careful there, interracial marriage has nothing to do with being proud or not being proud of your heritage. I shutter at the thought of someone considering interracial marriage shameful. With this country having a skyrocketing 50-60% divorce rate, I think race is the least of our concerns. Finding someone of the same race is fairly easy, finding someone to love you forever is much, much, harder. So let's keep our priorities in order, shall we?

Ok, interracial marriage has nothing to do with being proud of your heritage? Say if I was concerned with the heritage of my full blooded German Shepard. Would I breed her with a Poodle? I can understand peoples feelings on the subject. I myself am multi ethnic, 1/4 hispanic. I just think these situations will be faced by interracial couples in any city in the US, and if you're truly in love, you'll just have to deal with it, and be strong. Thats life.

I am a black African and my wife a white American. We have five biological children and adopted four african siblings three years ago. We lived in California with no thoughts at all that we are "different" people. However, my wife was afraid to come visit our daughter in Birmingham because she remembered the 60s, when she was almost punched for being in the company of African men. I bought the tickets without her knowing and flew to Birmingham. She instantly fell in love with the Southern genuine friendliness. We are now in Huntsville, enjoying as all normal people should be enjoying without the stupid color discrimination. If we were different species we would not have produced five children. We are happy and live our lives as free as anywhere in the World.

It's not species, it's race. I mean there are different races with different cultures out there. We're all human, and different races can reproduce. Just like a story I read about the african bees that have made their way over to the US & are mating with local bees making a dangerous offspring. They're both bees, can reproduce, but different characteristics. I'm sure in the future everyone will be mixed and then race will no longer matter.

I know, Pitboss, but sometimes people talk about differences as if we are so different as different species. Mentioning african bees, I had a great time - an african entomologist enjoying the "african" bee fear. No, interbreeding africans with caucasians, who themselves moved out of Africa years ago, won't make the offsprings as wild as the african bees did, if that is what racists are afraid of.

Yeah, had a bee keeper friend, who was working on the African bee scare. Just had to throw that out there, hope you had a laugh. As far as what the racists are afraid of, Many white women are marrying black men. If the tables were turned, would it bother you as a black man? Thats my only explanation. I apologize if any of this has offended anyone, I like a good discussion on things people are afraid to talk about.

If the tables were turned, say if my 3 sisters-two of which are single, desired to marry a white man? I would be so happy that they found men who love them and cared for them. What the heck do i care what skin he has?

My heritage is American, born here and gonna die here, God willing. I am from the South, and over in Mississippi times havent changed all that much. People still come up and call white women N lovers for being with black men, they still stare and shun you. Maybe Alabama is like New York, but Louisiana, MS, SC, NC parts of VA and other states even up North are not as great with it as Alabama is.

I would think again about it before relocating. People think they own you if you have the same skin color, even if they dont know you or have done anything for you.

No it wouldn't bother me. "That's my only explanation". In fact I wonder why not many black women marry white men. My possible explanation is that usually men make the first move in a relationship, I wonder why. So it seems white men don't want to make the move towards black women. I have also noticed that white men tend to marry black women more easily when they are outside of the United States, so probably it is related to the racial history in this country where it was illegal to marry whoever you fell in love with. It may also be that women have different sets of values as men, so they may see other things in black men, not just color, that white men may not see in black women. "I apologize if any of this has offended anyone, I like a good discussion on things people are afraid to talk about". Oh no don't apologize. In the South we are honest, not like Californians who try to hide their feeling to make one feel good. To tell you the truth, I haven't noticed anything racist in this. It is because I come from a different culture and history and so anybody rasist towards me has a problem, not me, except when I get physically hurt in the process, and I haven't.

I should say I am not qualified to discuss this "problem". Ask me about what Blackwidow wants in a male? It is the fertilization of her eggs. That is not what my wife wanted from me because she hasn't killed me yet and we have been married for 45 years. Would young white men hate us. We call other cultures Third World, but in a lot of cases we, the USA are backward looking.

Take this into consideration before moving to Alabama: The ban on interracial marriage was overturned only a few years ago and by only a very small margin. Considering that most minorities voted to get rid of the ban and therefore it passed (barely), you should have an inkling as to what white people think about miscegenation here in Alabama.

About people of different races coming together i the name of love,i think it depends on the love between the two parties.As long as there is mutual love,race is nothing.I've been iterracial relationship before and i must say it feels the same only that this time you have someone that is unique and i kinda gives you this special feeling.To all the brothers and sisters out there,when your heart says go,why not go for it.....i would not mind marrying a white sister,as a matter of fact,am looking for one right now...
