Hey everyone,
I could really use some advice. I recently moved to Birmingham, AL to do my residency. My husband has been offered a great job in Atlanta, GA. Is it realistic to live someplace in between the two cities and keep our jobs? We realize it will be crazy commuting but we would much rather live together than apart.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much

I would recommend Anniston as a possibility. It's basically an hour both ways.

Thank you! Will look into it. Are you familiar with any other cities/towns that i could look into?

I second Anniston and Oxford -- just about half-way. The drive into B'ham for you will not be bad. I would suggest, however, that your husband make that drive on a weekday morning into ATL so he knows just what he's dealing with. I'm thinking that would be a pretty tough commute, especially once you got to about Douglasville and hit all the traffic.

Anniston/Oxford would be a good choice. Another good option would be the Pell City area (Riverside/Lincoln)--although smaller & less to do (although a movie theater and bowling alley is supposed to be in the works), you have Lake Logan Martin there if that interests you. Pell City would be about 30 minutes in your favor as compared to Anniston. I have always heard of ppl who commute to Atlanta from areas along 20 but I don't know anyone personally who has done it. I think it would be doable other than traffic concerns as was mentioned. Good luck!

No way would I attempt this.
You would have to have two cars in really good condition (think repair costs)
You would be spending a bucketload on gasoline
You would be subject to the somewhat regular traffic jams
You would constantly be getting tickets, as that is a HIGHLY patrolled road
You would be driving after spending hours in a residency situation and highly likely to fall asleep
You would be at the mercy of the weather many days

It would be more cost/safety/time effective to rent an apartment in Birmingham and have husband do a room rental in Atlanta for the weeknights.

During your residency "free time" will be at a premium. You will be able to be late once, twice but not trice.
Aside from already mentioned issues such as gas, reliable vehicle, time, tickets (let's not use the word Nascar) - it will wear both of you down in no time. Been there, tried that:>(
Have the one with a "normal" job get a crash pad and commute for the week end.
