Thank you all for the responses.

Can anyone throw some light on the golf part of my question?
Obviously, kid's school/groceries/wife's comfort all come next to the game for a golfer :-)

Wow...that does seem very high for an apt. My experience has always been better for houses, though utilities cost significantly more.

Check craigslist.com for 3BR in Hoover, I'm seeing a TON of deals for apts. and townhomes there.

Welcome to Alabama. I'm in Tuscaloosa and I advice you to quickly pick a football team (Auburn or Alabama). As a UA employee, I say RoLL TIDE!

Well, if you want to have nothing but a bunch of knuckle-dragging hayseeds for friends, then follow her advice.

Otherwise join the Forces of Goodness and Light, otherwise known as Auburn University. And, yes, pick a team. Makes for more fun in the fall. You get invited to all the good parties.

Inverness Elem is a very good school. It's one of the school districts where I am looking to buy a house.

Hello finzup and cpg,

I am going very slow on the football, but, just to pick a team - I pick Auburn!

Thank you, Autiger for sharing your opinion on the Inverness Elementary.

Still looking for a home...sweet home....

Appreciate any suggestions...

A few neighborhoods that have some rental options. Patton Creek Condo's and Sterling Oaks of Riverchase. I have a son in kindergarten. We are in the Hoover school system. Please feel free to email me for more information or questions.

Finally settled! Got a home in the Narrows sub division. Zoned for Mt Laurel Elementary School. Have a very positive feeling about the neighbourhood. Eagle point golf course is less than 3 miles. Now that the home is done, the next focus is on getting a good preowned car; Knowing about my temporary stay here, most of them are suggesting a camry or an accord. My vote is for an Impala, because for the same dollars I get more value, I feel. What y'all say?

What makes you say an Impala gives you more value? Personally, I would never buy an American made car (although the new Ford line is nice).
