I wanted to spread the word of the newest addition to downtown Birmingham- Railroad Park (located across from B & A Warehouse on 1st Ave South).

I recently had the opportunity to view the park on a Leadership of Birmingham function, and to be quite frank, I was blown away with the scope/ details of the park.

The projected finish time of the park is September 2010, and these pictures were taken about three weeks ago.

I will go out on a limb and call this a game changer for downtown Birmingham (that is if the management company lives up to taking care of the park over time).

Enjoy-

It's going to be a great venue. Personally, I think the downtown area is undergoing a very cool transformation that will pay off with a more vital city center. Restaurants, bars, galleries, lofts, apartments, and now parks are springing up, and the occupancy rate of offices downtown is still over 90% despite the recession. Overall, not a bad foundation for growth.

As a native Birminghamian, I love news like this. This really shows some foresight. Just wonder how safe this area is for families.

Having lived in Chattanooga and, now, Greenville, SC, I can attest downtown revitalization will do wonders for driving economic growth (e.g. Trader Joe's will build it's first SC store in Greenville this year).

There was a high profile wedding here this past weekend with a lot of celebs in attendance. Someone I know said that perhaps a few of these people have signed on as contributors to either the Railroad Park or the Entertainment District. Anyone know what I am talking about, or if there is any truth to it?
