I'll be in Bham in a few weeks to start my classes, but I'm wondering, where would be a good place to start looking for a pt job? I've been considering applying to places like Target, bb, toysrus, and any others I can think of.

Apply at banks for floater teller positions. May look better on a future resume plus even PT does generally have benefits.

Floater teller? I've never heard of that position before. What kind of job is it?

Restaurants in the Five Points area. Always looking for waiters and the like. Tips are better than anything you'll find in a regular job.

Applying to a job is just something you have to pound the pavement to do. There isn't much bham specific advice to give. Google how to interview and such at general sites (about.com and such). When you get here, walk/drive around the the various shops in the area and ask for applications. It goes without saying that shopping areas (5 points and Lakeview) and strip or shopping malls are easier to hit multiple places. As you said, if you can't wait you can also look online to to find chains that have local branches and possibly apply there. In addition, your school may have part-time jobs available.

Yep. What's more, you're bound to know people in the Birmingham area. Why don't you ask around? There's no shame in networking, you know.

Well there's a P/T career fair coming up that I plan on attending. I mean, I know how to interview and all of that, just need a good place to start. But I'll definitely hit the shopping areas and the five points restaurants area for a start. .

cpg, is five points the area located around UAB? That one time last month was my first time in years going back to Birmingham, so I'm not too familiar with the area...yet.
