High end breakfast restaurant (possibly) coming to the metro to combat The Egg and I, Big Bad Breakfast, etc:

Breakfast restaurant cooking up Birmingham expansion - Birmingham Business Journal

Quote:
A high-end breakfast establishment is targeting Birmingham for a franchise expansion. Charlotte-based Toast Cafe could be opening its first metro restaurant in the next 24 months, according to founder and CEO Robert Maynard.
Maynard said the plan is to open up three to five restaurants over the next three years in Birmingham.
I like that they plan on diving in with several locations at once.

Quote:
“I'm really friendly with Keith Richards at Taziki's,” Maynard said. “It (Birmingham) seems to be a more progressive area. I like the whole vibe of that, and I think it's a great place for us to be.”

Maynard said he is not against opening restaurants inside the city center or in the outlying areas in the metro.
More progressive, huh... Imagine that.

What a duh. Imagine the women of Moutain Brook not having convenient access to Dior? Not.

Women in Mountain Brook are far more likely to be flying off to New York or Europe. Atlanta's shopping has become, how do they say, trendy.

It's not the sixties anymore. If you get on a plane to go shopping you might as well end up in a true international market place. Not a place that has lured a lot of franchised namesakes. Do your homework.

It didn't even occur to me that people like you would be jealous of a show like Jersey Belle. That's funny. Tell me how much you like it, I havent watched a single episode. She doesnt even live in Mountain Brook.

Well that's one big one off the wish list...

I'm guessing tomorrow they'll announce one going in at one of the 35 new shopping strip centers HSV has coming up so they don't feel left out.

Bring on the &.

Indeed.
Banana Republic relocating to make way for Trader Joe's - Birmingham Business Journal

Quote:
Trader Joe's first Alabama store will take the space currently occupied by Banana Republic at the The Summit mall in 2015.
The popular grocery chain announced its entrance into the Birmingham market this morning in a press release, revealing The Summit as its first location in the state.
David Silverstein, principal at Bayer Properties, confirmed this afternoon the exact location of the 12,600-square-foot store.
Banana Republic will relocate within The Summit to a space near Michael Kors, Silverstein said in a statement.
I guess the Summit is officially built out now. I do not see where or how they could squeeze in anything else in addition to what they already have.

The food options on and near 280 are fantastic now. A far cry from when I lived out there watching Bruno's Food World and Winn Dixie die. Whole Foods, TJ's, Fresh Market, Sprout's, Publix, and W-M/Neighborhood Market make it like it never even happened and better then before.
