Default Traffic in Birmingham, AL

My family and I are being relocated to Birmingham. We are considering living in Ross Bridge area of Hoover and then my husband commuting to Birmingham. I was told 280 is terrible and can take up to an hour during rush hour traffic. How is i-65?

If you're looking at Ross Bridge, he won't have to deal with 280. He will probably take Lakeshore to I-65 and then on in to B'ham. But, yes, 280 is horrible.

I-65 can be bad, as well, but not as bad as 280. 65 has more places for you to get off and take a back route that may be more to your choosing and more convenient to your destination. Depending on where he is working, he probably won't take 65 all the way in to the 59/20 junction. He'll get off in Homewood, or on University.

Where will he be working in Birmingham? If he's at UAB, Ross Bridge is an easy commute via the Green Springs Highway. If he's downtown, then I-65 is a better route.

He will be meeting with clients throughout Birmingham and will probably be Mon thru Fri normal business hours. How long would a typical commute take? He is commuting to Denver, Co now and can take an hour each way. We want to avoid that as much as possible but we love the area of Ross Bridge.

Ross Bridge ought to be exceptionally convenient then. If you have kids, I would offer that you should be in the Hoover part of RB, rather than the Birmingham side of the line. The Hoover schools are superior to the Birmingham schools in every imaginable way.

Hmm, I had no idea Ross Bridge existed both in Birmingham and Hoover. I had thought it was completely a Hoover development.

Hwy 150 will be your "280" as it gets very congested during the morning and after noon rush, but Lakeshore drive, as already stated, will be the route you will take to get to 65 and have access to the city. Its fairly desolate on the RB side, and there's a rather large (but dying) shopping center on the Birmingham/Homewood side where traffic picks up. I've never done it personally, but I can't imagine it taking much more then 30 mins to get downtown on a typical morning.

I think Ross Bridge proper is probably all in Hoover. But there is an apartment complex out there that I'm pretty sure is in Birmingham or at least unincorporated Jeffco -- even though I think it might have Ross Bridge as part of its name. But it always pays to check and check again.

Would love a follow up as we are looking at Ross bridge. Did you buy there? How is the commute to downtown?

Default Tourian, what's the large, dying SC?

Brookwood Village, or is it something right on I-65 at the exit?

Hadn't been to B'ham much in a while, wasn't sure...I used to think BV was pretty cool back in the day...

He's talking about the Wildwood shopping center, just west of I-65 on both sides of Lakeshore. Where Sam's and Wal-Mart are. The westernmost end of the south side (where the theater and Baumhower's were) has been demolished. Bruno's on the north side is closed, and I think the BAM on that side was to close, too. There is a lot of vacancy and it's looking pretty scruffy.
