Default Public Tracks in Birmingham?

I just moved to Birmingham for an internship. I'm looking for a safe place to run...I'd like a track. I live off Lakeshore Drive, one mile from I-65. Any suggestions? I'm still trying to orient my self around here...I know the big roads but all the little suburbs are confusing me!

Default Public Tracks near Lakeshore

The closest to you would be the track at Samford University. It is a nice track, but I'm not sure of when it is open to the public.

If you don't mind a few turns, Mountain Brook High School has a great track that is open to the public before and after school. It is one of ony 3 Mondo surface tracks in Alabama.

About the same distance and few more turns will get you to Vestavia High School which has a great mondo track, as well. (The 3rd mondo track is in Mobile at USA.)

If you have trouble with these, post again and I will direct you to a few more, that are a little further out.

Welcome to Birmingham and happy running.

I think Lakeshore Rehab has a track, but you probably have to pay or join something and pay to use it.

To Mt Brook High School-take Lakeshore to 280 towards the Summit- then take the 2nd left-Overton Road- across from water Works Follow Overton for a few miles- Turn left onto oakdale Road Right at next light.

What is Mondo- My kids go to Mt Brook and I don't even know what Mondo means...

I was going to mention this also....I believe it is around 5 miles from one end to the other and then back again. Also, the Jemison Trail starts around the Brownell Bldg off of Lakeshore and goes into Mtn Brook. If you want to run with a group, you should go to the Trak Shak in downtown Homewood....I believe lots of runners meet up there on Wed nights to do a group run around Homewood.....if nothing else, they could give you some good advice on where to find a good track.
