Default Moving from Chicago to Birmingham !

Hello everybody.

I'm a French postdoc and I will move at the end of this month to Birmingham to work at UAB. I'm looking for an apartment to rent not far from UAB to be able to go there by walking or with a bicycle. I heard that Homewood apartments along Valley avenue are in a unsafe area and apartments have lots of problems (need long time to fix problem, lazy maintenance people, horrible manager, rodent problems, health problems, ...). Are there peoples living in Mountains Woods, Magnolia Park, or Overlook at Homewood to tell me if everything is true ? These places seem to be very nice on websites like Apartments.com - Free Nationwide Apartment Search with the Most Visual Rental Listings Online. or ApartmentGuide.com - apartments for rent, apartment finder (Internet, swimming pool, fitness center, and rent not so high $525-600).

Thank you for any information.
Have a good day.

Hi there!
Moved from B'ham last year but I lived there for 12 years after college. STAY AWAY from all apts on Valley Ave. Homewood is lovely to live in or rent a house, but no decent or safe apts!!!

I couldn't remember the name so hubby just told me ...it's University Place Apartments...they are adorable! Thay are new or were built in the last few years...less than a block from UAB...& they either have 1st floor with a cute patio (this level comes with a security gate) or the 2nd story ones are all built above neat litttle restaurants :-)

There are also lots of amazing lofts everywhere around UAB...rentals & to purchase! I hope this helps.
