According to the Birmingham News, Highland Park has won a spot on the list of 10 Great Neighborhoods for 2011. The award was given by the American Planning Association (based in Washington D.C. and Chicago).

The neighborhood clearly deserves this honor. I have visited many of the major cities in the U.S. and IMO the Highland Park area ranks as one of the most beautiful and fascinating urban neighborhoods in the country.

I'm not big on these "10 best" or "10 worst" lists, but when something good like this comes to the great city of Birmingham, I have to find joy in it.

Fantastic news. I love that area. We lived in Forest Park and used to drive around Highland Park all the time to admire the beautiful old houses.

For those who may not be familiar with the area - Highland Park | Welcome to the Historic Highland Park neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama
