Relocating to Birmingham Area
Hi,
I am contemplating relocation to the area in support of a Job offer, and I need help finding a suitable rental home (not interested in buying yet, want to make sure that I want to stay first). I've searched around online but have been unable to come up with many options....I hear that Vestavia has good school (important) but I don't want a horribly long commute....Can anybody give me any suggestions????

Where is the potential job located? What price range are looking to stay in?
I don't have kids, so I can't attest to the school systems; however I always hear that Vestavia has a good school system.

I will be working in Birmingham, and I guess the price range would be anything between 1000 and 2000 monthly.....

I spose by "Birmingham" you mean downtown. What do you consider a good commute time. I ask because the typical commute time in Boston or Chicago is going much more than anything here.
Trussville, Clay, Argo, Vestavia, Homewood, Hoover will all be good schools. This is not by far a complete list. They are all areas with interstates going right through which is generally the key to a shorter commute time. I65 can get clogged up more than all the others. It runs from Hoover to Bham. I rarely drive it and never during peak hours. So I cant tell you how long it would take even if it did get backed up. It still might be less than you're used to. I dunno.
Do you care if you rent a house or apt? If I remember, tomorrow Ill try to pick up one of those "renters" pamphlets they have in stands at different stores.

I would recommend Homewood for a short commute and good schools. You could get a rental house there for around $1700 per month.

Check the classified section of this forum and also craigslist.com for a rental house. If you find something, come back and ask about the area. The people here know there stuff..

Homewood is a good place. Rudulph Realty has a large selection of rental homes. I have no contacts there but you can see the homes on their website that is available
