Given your requirements, I'd recommend Trussville.

Almost everything in the area is new from a retail standpoint. It has good, solid demographics and low crime. It's about a 25 minute drive to Hoover from there...

BTW - don't be mislead by reading that "Birmingham" has a population of 240,000 people. The metro population is currently 1.1 million. Therefore the vast majority of people live outside the city center.

This is similar to "Atlanta" which has a metro population of approximately 4 million people. Of that number only about 400,000 actually live in "Atlanta, Georgia".

Check out Cahaba Heights. It's in Vestavia with a good school system, and about 10-15 mins from Hoover. Depending on where you are you can walk to some stores and restaurants. I've got a house for rent there for $1600 a month, but you might find some closer to $12-1300.

Here is a house that looks quite nice for the price. It's brand new, 4 BR, 1700 sq. ft. It is in Trussville. Its only a couple of miles from the downtown area....but you couldn't walk it. Rental Houses Home Rentals, Homes for Rent, Houses for Rent, Rental Homes#

Google says it takes 41 mins to get from West Blocton to Hoover.

Parts of Bessemer can get a little seedy. I'm just not sure which parts. Google says it takes 22 mins to get to Hoover, tho.

It says it take 28 mins to get there from Hueytown.

26 from Trussville (it takes me less)

14 from Homewood

17 from Alabaster

well, that's all I have right now.

I would try the area of Helena It is such a beautiful small town with great parks and you might be able to find a rental in that price or maybe a little more A best place to look for rentals is al.com or realty south.
