Default 8/28/2009 PLEASE update this thread; moving need advice.

[quote]Most of the suburbanites are pretty conservative and religious, but not rednecks. On the other hand, the Southside area of Birmingham is quite liberal and is probably the most economically and socially diverse community in Alabama.[quote](Quote from FishMonger 11/2006)

That part (above) of his reply caught my eye. We may be moving to Birmingham and also need advice. We're from Brandon, FL and are looking for a Christian high school (preferably traditional Southern Baptist) with outstanding strong academics. Also looking for a good Southern Baptist church to call home.

Husband may be working out of Pelham, so while an easy commute is preferable it's more important to us to locate ourselves near an excellent, preferably large, Southern Baptist Church that takes the Bible literally as the unerring word of God. (In other words, not a "progressive" church that picks and chooses what parts of the Bible it will believe.)

I guess that means that we would like to live in a predomiently conservative area for we have discovered that while most Christians are concerned and caring about everyone, many liberials assume Christian conservatives are bigoted and therefore they treat the conservatives in an unwelcoming manner.

Thank you for any advice that you can offer our family on where to relocate.

Oh, all denominations pick and choose what they believe. Don't delude yourself.

That being said, I would offer the southern suburbs. Briarwood would be my choice in what you're seeking.

Thank you for the advice, are you familiar with any churches or schools there?
And "YES" I agree with you about the denominations; I should have made myself more clear as I was actually referring to different beliefs WITHIN the Southern Baptist Community as individual SBC churches can vary widely as they are NOT designated to specifics by the S.B.Convention. (It's a bottom-up organizational hierarchy as opposed to the top-down structure of many other Christian denominations.)

Wow - followed your advice and looked online - and discovered that the "Briarwood" you recommended isn't a suburb like I'd assummed by the name but rather the church and school itself. Thank you so much for the referral, I wouldn't have ever thought to look at other denominations, but having done a bit of research now I can see why you suggested it. Much appreciated!
