Lookin to move to Hoover Alabama
Well I am engaged and have 2 daughters 3yrs and 5months. My fiance and I only have h.s diplomas but he has a background in general labor and me, well a diverse background. But really I am tryin to further my career in public relations..i.e. event coordinator. I really love to plan out events to raise money, so thats the field I would like to pursue. My aunt lives in Hoover and is tryin to help me get an opportunity down there. I need to know about the city itself from actual residents. I live in Detroit, not the suburbs but the actual city, and I worry day to day about getting hurt or worse. The schools are bad, the job market is worse, and all expenses up here is hittin the sky. I am also in pursuit of an associate degree in Business Management. What schools are down there that I could afford? Also are there any modes of public transportation? I am really looking forward to move within the next 3 yrs, so ANY information on Hoover and/or it's surrounding cities would be thoughtful. THANKS!

Hoover would be a good choice for you....it has good schools and low crime. And you can find affordable housing if you look for it...there are several advertising and PR firms in Birmingham so you would have employment opportunities as well...
Your husband should not have a hard time finding a job at all as there is a labor shortage here now....

schools close to Hoover...hmm, of course there's UAB, good school
I'd check into U of Montevallo, whcih is just south of Hoover, not a bad program either
Birmingham Southern College is a very fine school, so is Samford in Homewood (just east a bit from Hoover), but they are expensive for sure...
I think there is a community college in Jefferson County as well...affordable ( I think it's JCCC )

I don't believe Hoover has ANY public transportation. The city of Birmingham does, but it's limited. For the most part, public transportation is simply not offered in Alabama. We haven't had the population density to support it.

For a young man with high school education, where are be best places to look for work in the Hoover area? My son relocated there and loves it, but the work situation has been dismal. Some pointers would be helpful. His background is retail sales and sales related computer background. Should he go through agencies or directly to companies?

I' m a Detroit native as well, and if you are tired of the hussle and bussle, Hoover will be great option. The public transportation is not as good as Detroit,so if that is something that is needed, Hoover is not the place, or you might want to invest in a car. The schools in Hoover are amongst the best in Alamaba, much different than Detroit Public school system. As far as advancing your education, they are a few community colleges that are affordable that will fit your situation. You will be relieved with the cost of living here, opposed to Detroit. If you do have a car, the insurance will be more than 50% less than what you are used to paying, so that's extra money in your pocket already. The suburbs of Birmingham will have a more diverse population than Detroit as well.
