Default Things to Do in Birmingham/Alabama

New here and there's not a lot to do Kind of disappointed with my move. Beats Chicago though at least the weather isn't as cold and there is some topography.

I've seen Southside. Been hiking at Cheaha, Oak Mountain (boring), Ruffner, and Little River Canyon. Seen Talladega, ate at Dreamland, Jim n Nicks, Surin, been to every Birmingham mall, Vulcan Park

Any civil war battlefields or antebellum houses? Dirt track racing? Gotta be some other stuff going on.

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park (War of 1812 - Creek War) - Dadeville, 280 S past Sylacauga

Horseshoe Bend National Military Park (U.S. National Park Service)

For Civil War battlefields, there's Chattanooga, Shiloh (about hour from Florence AL), Fort Gaines (Dauphin Island) and Fort Morgan (Gulf Shores), Selma, Nashville / Murfreesboro, Vicksburg, Atlanta... Some make good day trips; I like the Mobile Bay star forts when I'm at the beach.

THIS WEEKEND:

Quote:
Battles for the Armory 2007
3 Day Event - Nov. 9, 10, 11, Tallassee, Alabama
Battles on Sat. and Sun at 2:00PM
The Battles for the Armory - Tallassee Civil War Reenactment

Also try Tannehill:

Tannehill Historical State Park

For hiking / camping, try the Walls of Jericho (past Scottsboro).

Wallstreet, are you familiar with the Black and White weekly free publication? Pick one up sometime if you haven't already. They contain all the things that are going on in Birmingham that week. Festivals, concerts, wine tasting, movies, events, etc.

Course, I can sort of see what you're saying considering you're in your 20's. Come back in your mid-30s and I'm sure you'll love it here!

Yeah. I can get a bit a stir crazy here but I probably do need to pick up one of those publications. Mostly now I have to just study and work. When its time to head off for my first big job though I'll probably look to a bigger market like Charlotte or Atlanta. I'm sure its good when you get tired of big city life though.

I moved here from Chicago and played in the music scene there, too. Frankly, if you're bored in this town, you're just not trying.
