Since not seeing anything here , did I miss it, I want to post that I am very excited about the new ..........'ABROMS-ENGEL VISUAL ARTS INSTITUTE' across from 'ALYS STEPENS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER'.

This center is adding a fantastic new dimension to the campus at UAB and the city center.

I would like to point out that the center is designed by Russell Stout, the architect of the expansion of the 'HUNTER MUSEUM OF ART' in Chattanooga and other wonderful buildings found worldwide. He specializes in this type facility. His forms are always exciting. (ie Frank Gehry)I find the 'HUNTER' to be wonderful.

To me this is yet another great example of these wonderful donor families who along with the Hesses have done and continue to do so much in Birmingham. It is also another legacy of our beloved 'PARISIAN DEPARTMENT STORES' which called Birmingham home and was loved in so many communities across the eastern half of the nation.

If anyone has more to add please do so as I want people to be excited about this new venue and its undeniable potential to move us forward in the arts community.

This thread should be open to all news that you would like to share about the renewal of spirit in Birmingham that is now taking form in ' grass, steel, concrete, and glass. On that note, I was by the airport last weekend and just have to say that it is coming along so well. It sparkles. (let's hope the air industry gets its act together by the completion next year.

See CPG23'S THREAD ON 'LIGHTRAILS'..................

BEST,
raj
