A Canadian visitor's trip to Birmingham
In addition to City Data, I also participate on TripAdvisor - which is a travel site/board. I do travel writing for Birmingham and have reviewed a lot of restaurants...
They also have a forum and a traveler from Toronto started asking me questions about the city in reference to an upcoming trip she was taking with her husband and brother to come here and play golf at the Robert Trent Jones Trail. She had already scheduled the dates and had reservations at the Ross Bridge Resort when we got in contact with each other. I recommended several restaurants...here is the diary of her trip...which was from 10/31-11/4/07
dinner Wed was at Brock's on resort ... great dinner ... had Lamb osso bucco and their pork tenderloin with some beverages and starters ... great service ... excellent meal ... the service was little rushed until we told them to back off a bit ... the staff that clear the table want to take your plates, drinks a little too fast you might say
Thurs hit Oxmoor Valley great course again poor service on course ... had lunch back at the resort after previous food ... lunch was great ... service was great at PJs on resort ... great portions and great drinks ... outdoor pool was open so we used the hottub every morning and swam in the afternoon ... great weather as I am sure you were enjoying as well
Thurs hit Ocean for drinks and appetizers, had oysters at 26 with martinis ... Eric at the bar was amazing ... great service and amazing atmosphere .. we decided to sit at the bar which was really a lot of fun to watch the cooks go at it ... went to Workplay totally amazing the bands were incredible and sound system was totally incredible ... drove downtown and parked at Oceans then took cab we could have driven actually to Workplay
Friday up and off to Oxmoor again still poor service and extremely slow ... we were to play the second round at 3 on Ridge but we were already so far behind we knew this time would never happen as they were fully booked ... passed on the last tee time they had booked for us on Wed
Friday afternoon hit the spa great service and very relaxing they have a beautiful steamroom and whirlpool and we all enjoyed ... Friday night opted for seafood again and took our chances at Hot Hot Fish Club ... no problem finding a table at 9 pm ... we ended up eating on the patio it was beautiful .. service again was great we had quite the dishes from Grouper, to the veggie plate .. they certainly knew their wines the same at Brock's ... great dessert of donuts and a tart ... had sweat breads, fried oysters, the soup etc ... amazing is all I can say
Sat had breaky at Brocks (we did this most mornings, great buffet and even better breakfasts) clubhouse which was fast and yummy ... Ross Bridge an amazing and very challenging course ... although fully booked they managed the course well and timing was great ... service was amazing on the course ... had easy afternoon as we were pretty tired after the course ... had lunch in the clubhouse very good
Sat night reservations at Highlands Bar and Grill at 815 always request the table at back of restaurant by the big window it is a quiet location and great view of everything ... service was great ... they brought lots of extras for us to try (peanut soup and ice cream homemade) and wines to try till we decided on matching wines ... we had appetizers with matching wines, entrees (lamb, chicken, ?) ... had dessert of course and it was amazing .. choc cake, brulee and tart .. all great and wines to match again ...
Sunday had relaxing pool and hottub then long buffet breaky ... left for Highlands golf course and really enjoyed it ... a lot easier than the courses we played so it was fun ... great challenges though and great views ... had enough time to do some shopping at the Outlet (very close to highway so easy to get to and then to the airport)

Just trying to be of service!! We gotta put our best foot forward....
Sounds to me like they had a helluva time - wish I had been with them!!
They really spent some money though...get this. It was her husband's 40th birthday and she paid for it all.
Lucky, lucky man....
