As most of you probably know, the city wants to move the police and fire depts to better digs. Carraway seems to be the people's favorite while the old Social Security building is the favorite of the mayor and perhaps city council. Now it seems there may be some graft involved as supposedly uncovered by an AL columnist.

Why would Birmingham throw away millions? Follow the money (John Archibald) | AL.com

If it walks like a duck, etc. etc.

Personally, I think the proposal makes zero sense.

I can't see how it can be better the using Carraway other then maybe a more centralized location. But I am pretty sure at this point that some sort of graft is involved. What a shame.

Carraway seems like an obvious choice to me,as well. If relocated there, it would more than likely encourage more development, and a cleanup for the area north of downtown, especially with the nearby Uptown District.

The old social security building is a poor choice. Why would they spend all of that money on renting that building when they could rent something cheaper or even build something?

Interesting. Maxine Parker's son is proposing a resolution to buy Carraway. Maybe because he is the only one that could not be bought?

I think its in or next to his district. Not to say that it isn't a better deal (good policy is rarely the sole result of good politics, intentions and practice).
