We won't see another Reagan-FDR style sweep in a generation.
I wouldn't be too sure. Foreign policy always trumps the economy, and the feckless leadership of the current administration is breathtakingly bad in that department. In fact, I would contend that Obama makes even GWB look like Metternich in comparison. The 2016 election could very well be a replay of 1980 or 2008, given that the best hope of the Democrats, Hillary Clinton, ran the State Department. It's going to be very hard for her to distance herself from the debacle if things continue to worsen.

What's more, it's worth remembering that Carter was neck-and-neck with Reagan a week before he was totally crushed in an historic landslide. In some polls, he was ahead. But when the country broke, it broke very, very hard.

A lot is being made over the secrecy surrounding the bid for the DNC and how the 275K was spent. I had hoped for as much positive press as possible to come from the process, but the reality of it is that can't be when people, politics and money are involved. I hope lessons are being learned for the "next time."
Well, to be honest, al.com has become way to "sensationalist" if you will. They really made a big stink out of this whole thing and have lead a lot of people to start coming up with a whole array of conspiracies surrounding the privacy of this matter... And the truth is that they were doing this in order to protect our bid for the DNC.

The folks over at al.com really need to check themselves before posting just about everything they can get their hands on.

"Why not Birmingham?" Mayor William Bell explains logistics, feasibility behind city's bid for 2016 Democratic National Convention | AL.com

Quote:
With color coded maps on the table, Andre Bittas, Director of Planning, Engineering and Permits, described plans to repurpose existing space at the BJCC to create an additional 100,000 square feet of additional office space in the building and more than 40 suites in the arena.
"We walked with them and showed them how it would look," Bittas said. "We showed exact locations for everything they would need. They walked through that facility and they were satisfied that we could meet their requirements."

I'm glad our mayor has the audacity to believe that this is still a possibility even when it seems like there's no chance. That's a sign of a good leader when you can ignore the people calling you "crazy."

I saw the video of the arena, I wanna know is how will you get to those nose bleed sky boxes they will be building? cause if you gotta walk all the way up those stairs to get to them they just don't need to build those things cause I've walked to the top of that upper deck and it is a pain in the butt and legs.

Ok after looking at the video again it looks like there will be another entrance added to the left of the Rocky Steps. Which might have a way to get up there cause it just doesn't look feasible to have people that can afford a sky box to walk those steps. I actually like what they are planing to do I have been saying for years that when they get the Dome done they need a total remodel to the old arena, but adding more boxes on the lower leve and the ones on the upper deck would help to lure events here that don't think the arena has enough boxes.

Elevators............for ticket holders, and escalators for general traffic.

I wish they would have done this years ago. Because the BJCC has lost many opportunities to have a Mid to Upper level Minor League hockey teams, because of the fact the Arena is out dated not many suites and a very plain concourse. If they do this update right it will make the BJCC Arena relevant again and be a state of the art arena again.

World Games selection committee coming to Birmingham in October, may be heading to Alabama vs. Texas A&M game | AL.com

And then there were three...

Quote:
Birmingham is currently one of three cities in the running to host the World Games in 2021, along with Lima, Peru and Ufa, Russia. The list of cities has dwindled from the time Birmingham first began looking into throwing its hat into the ring in February. Santiago, Chile and Barcelona, Spain are no longer being considered.
With all the turmoil in Russia I figured Ufa would be one of the first to be culled. But having Barcelona and Santiago off the list removes two major competitors.
