Commute from East Birmingham suburbs to Talladega
Can anyone give me the realistic view of commuting from the Trussville, Pell City, Leeds area to Talladega? We are looking to work in Talladega but live in a quiet suburban town with a good school district. According to opinions and research these areas are good for young families. But we have no clue about commute time.

Hello,
We are moving down to the Birmingham area in the next month. We were told that Trussville is a ggod area for children and the school districts there are good. Can you give me some insight?

I have not relocated to AL yet. We are not going until next month. I really need info. He is scheduled to start 1/7/08 and we have no resources in the area.

I completely understand where you are coming from. My husband starts his new job end of January and we really do not know much about the area. I have never even been down to AL. We are coming from Michigan and have 2 small children. Where are you coming from?

hmm..
Well, I have a friend in Pell City- probably from there the commute would be about 15-20 minutes?
It would be longer from Trussville or Leeds, but not horrible- probably 30-45 minutes tops via the interstate route...Alot is going to depend on where you live and how long it takes to get to the interstate.
Sorry I'm not more help!

OK Meg, same questions we ask everyone:
1) Where is your husband's job located?
2) How much house can you afford?

I think Trussville schools are decent. The area itself has become very crowded which to me I think is a problem. There is a lot of amenities, shopping malls, restaurants, families, etc in Trussville. I think it is a good area to move if you don't mind some of the crowdedness or traffic once you get off the interstate in the evening and morning hours. Leeds is alright, there's some basic starter houses there - a little bit further from everything, and I would not really suggest Pell City.
The commute from Trussville to Talladega should take about 45 minutes (a little longer if you're going to the town and not the racetrack.) The traffic is not that bad since you are going the exact opposite direction most people go and you are on the fringes of the Birmingham metro area.
Welcome to Alabama and hope you enjoy it.

look into leeds and moody. I don't know if you are looking at buying or renting. There are some apartments in the leeds/moody area.

megfromdetroit....
are you looking for an apartment or a house?
Where is your husband's job located?
I would recommend an apartment so you can get more acquainted with the area before and if you buy.
