No. Steve that's not how it works in the real world. That study you champion was for all of California where they operate over SEVERAL YEARS and their conclusion was "might." "If, should be, could be." Read your link. If something egregious happens because of Uber over the next six months that silly study wont mean squat to the people of Birmingham. And that doesn't mean theyll necesssrily get rid of all ridesharing. They might just get rid of the one company that screws up. Namely Uber. But i realize you have to keep glossing over that to appear to make sense or be "right."

Sorry.

Tourian, you have no idea whether there is a conspiracy at work or not. There's no way you can say that as fact.

Most, if not all of the council, tried to run Uber out of town to begin with. Now, they could just be approving a 6 month trial to appease everyone because of the amount of backlash it has caused. If something does happen, they can just say, "Well, we tried to make it work. Told you so!" The city council of Birmingham has resisted moving out of the way for over a year and we're supposed to believe that they are not just okay with it?

Yeah we are to believe the majority are okay with it. Otherwise they could vote no. I don't see the upside/point/advantage of bringing them in just to kick them out for a silly technicality especially when so many suburbs are picking them up too.

A rape, murder, home invasion, bomb scare though...

Sorry.

LMAO. Word salad.

You really don't get it, despite being spoonfed the information.

I can't wait for the big dome announcement coming by the end of 2014.

Is Uber Reducing DUIs in L.A? | L.A. Weekly

DUI Rates Decline in Uber Cities | Chicago

There have been similar studies done in quite a few markets and they all tell the same story. When ridesharing services enter a market, DUIs go down.

"And it wont matter how many lame "studies suggest" click bait internet links you can dig up."

And LOL at still missing the point. You sit there and say that if one egregious incident occurs on Uber's watch blah blah blah... they will be out....And I'm saying that would be a very shortsighted thing to do, and given the Birmingham city council's history... would seem to fit the narrative that they are looking for any reason, even if it isn't a good one, to keep these services out.

Also, a separate LOL for calling a university study a lame click bait internet link, yet some magazine (read: somebody's opinion with no scientific methodology) calls Birmingham an up and coming foodie city and you herald it as some great victory. Who needs science? Who needs research? Who needs data? Just laughable.

How many billions does the city have for the dome?

It is obvious your feelings are hurt.

Keep your fingers crossed that your employer doesn't hire an ax murderer over the next six months so you don't lose your job if they get run out of the city.

This is as close as this clown gets to admitting being wrong. Guess this will have to do.

On one hand, Uber is the free market's answer to ****-poor taxi service. There's no red tape involved in employment - the drivers use their own nice whips instead of taxis pieced together with duct tape and dreams. There's a convenient app that calls a driver to your location in record time. And best of all, it's considered a lot cheaper than most taxi services.

On the other hand, it doesn't have to abide by the same regulations that govern taxis, which could be good (gives you faster, more efficient service) or bad (gives you an overworked independent contractor who may be an ax murderer or rapist). The drivers don't get any benefits whatsoever (independent contractors) and all costs of running fares falls solely on their heads. Uber doesn't have to worry about ADA compliance, either. Or worker's comp. Or insurance, in most cases. Drivers aren't supposed to be Ubering on their personal insurance policy, but they do because commercial insurance is simply too expensive for them.

Uber does plenty of good, but tt's no secret the company has a track record of circumventing or ignoring regulations that would govern actual taxi companies.

Well it appears the last obstacle has been cleared and we can be Ubering around in time for the kitty kat Bowl.
