I am a 55 year old retired, disabled veteran with an annual income of 45k , thinking about relocating to Bham. I would prefer a 55 in over community, but am most concerned with renting in a safe area for people my age. Because of my disabilities I would like to find an apartment near a VA Hospital and military base.

The VA hospital is downtown, no military base here unless you count the Air Force refueling guys at the airport and there's a couple of small lots/depots for the Guard.

There are several nice areas to rent along the southside and DT that offer convenient access to the VA.
