Smile Relocating to B'ham from Philadelphia

My wife has taken a job in Irondale and we'll be coming to town later this spring. I'm a high school science (physics) teacher so I need to finish out my schoolyear first.
We've been looking on-line in the Leeds/Moody & Trussville area. Any comments- schools, crime, taxes etc?
I've heard that the Hoover area is getting crowded and the commute to Irondale may be long. It looks like highway driving for the most part- where are the traffic bottlenecks?
I am applying for an Alabama teaching license- what's the demand for physics/chemistry/ environmental science?
We're in the $330k price range for a home.

$330K will buy a lot of home in Birmingham. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

As far as quality of life, given that you're looking at the eastern end of town, I would recommend Trussville. It has the nice combination of amenities you'll find around a larger town while still having a small town atmosphere.

If it's school systems you're concerned about, Trussville's are the best of the three areas you mentioned. However, you should also take a close look at Southern Vestavia or Mountain Brook in the Overton Road area. The schools are top notch, the commute is very short and easy to Irondale on I-459 (your wife could probably drive home for lunch). It's a pretty great area in which to live.

Can't speak to the teacher's market out there. But schools systems are always looking.

In your price range I would recommend Trussville. Carrington Lakes is a beautiful subdivision there. Also in the Liberty Park area there is a neighborhood called The Cotswolds. My understanding is that they will be annexed into Vestavia Hills. That means prices will increase and a better school system. Taxes would increase as well.

You will have over 50 homes to choose from in your price range in Trussville. There are about 20 to choose from in the Leeds and Moody area.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.
