Personally, I think it would take one helluva imaginative architect to make that thing look good.

With UAB's plans to demolish their admin building to make way for a new EAST PAVILLION, I suspect that Liberty may well be in their sights for a new admin building. A perfect location for them. Room to grow, parking, next to Kirklin and still walkable to all the facilities by the bridge system. They have the need and the money so that says a lot.

Should be an event space / restaurant / bar concept. I can't imagine if it was leased under the terms of what Red Rock was asking for the build-out, but it should conform to what has already been built up on that block.

Some tidbits:

- The Woolworth in 5 Points had a successful soft opening this past weekend and it seemed to be pretty well-received.

- The Alabama Power Steam Plant project is on hold (and has been since last year). The Red Mountain Theater Company was wanting to move in there but did not have the funds so construction has been halted. All the de-industrializing is complete, and it is now just an empty shell waiting for the right development opportunity.

I was wondering about that. Seems a shame that it has sputtered out. Thanks for the update.

I thought Alabama Power had already planned the entire development?

^ not really. they've been looking for the right tenant/use the whole time. their role was primarily to get the building up to shape (new windows / structural reinforcing / etc). nobody seems to have a clear vision for this very unique property.

Will be interesting to see if the Woolworth helps give Five Points a much-needed shot in the arm. The new apartments in the area are a good sign. Also looks like the Barber building is done with renovations... hopefully those spots will get filled soon.

It looks like the 11 structure, 280-unit luxury apartment multifamily residential component to replace the western portion of the Wildwood Centre. This will definitely be a start of more residential developments within Oxmoor Valley
