just noticed they're adding balconies (at least that what it looks like in the rendering)... that should definitely improve the exterior.

I agree very much so that it would have, but that appears to have been deleted from the project.
It might have lead to too many jumpers as well, which then would have tainted the property for leasing. (people are sensitive and superstitious about such things)

they look more like juliet balconies which are pretty stupid imo anyway. they don't usually look good and they aren't usable.

Well how about an LED controlled perhaps via somebody's smart watch.

"Much like the Empire State Building, (it) will be connected to Internet so we can change the color and intensity of lighting remotely. It’s our hope that the tower atop the Thomas Jefferson will again be a Birmingham icon, acknowledging our past, and becoming a beacon for our city’s future," the company wrote on its blog.

Wow, can't wait to experience this! The lights changing colors. The new parkside pedestrian bridge surely needs to become a reality.

It is about time. Looking back on this center in its heyday with two movie theaters, bustling traffic and crowded restaurants to how it is now but with MORE people living down Lakeshore and MORE jobs having moved in to the area there is no excuse for it to have both theaters gone, 20% of it or so torn down and or empty.

The developer told the finance committee that they would plan to construct several new retail spaces, as well as find new national tenants for existing spots.

As the BBJ reported in January, the Wildwood Centre South property sold for $12 million.
The report said the firm is seeking to split additional sales tax revenue for up to $5 million.
Upgrades at the shopping center would include new roundabouts to improve traffic and a new entrance on the western side of the property, as well as new signage and lighting, among other changes.
If the project moves forward, Wildwood would join a long line of retail projects and renovations in the area.

If this is half done it will not reap rewards. We have seen that type effort in the past. The location is fantastic and will get even better once Lakeshore Pkwy connects to I-459.

The location's biggest deficit is that Sam's and Walmart are at the 'front' of the property. It would have helped a lot if they had been back where the theaters were.

There are just a lot of people that don't live out of those stores, and those people are the ones in the residential around that interchange.

Let's hope this will be done with foresight.
