Smile Looking for suggestions living in Birmingham, AL

Dear All,

My wife just got a job in Birmingham, AL around intersection of I-459 and 280. She will live with our one-year old son. Can anybody suggestion a place to live?

She cares: (1) a 5-10 minute commuting. (2) close to a daycare place (3) nice neighborhood and low crime rate. (4) a suburb not city.

Temporarily she does not care: (1) Art and science (2) Education system (3) distance for shopping, and etc.

Appreciate your help!

I'd suggest some apartments on Acton Road.

How much can she afford in monthly payments?

The intersection there can be a five-minute or longer commute from the exit ramp to the shopping center up the hill. It all depends on the traffic and time of day she needs to be commuting. Isn't there a day-care in that shopping center or right near it?

I'd suggest going just a little more out 280 and looking in that area for housing.

Thanks you guys. She would like a 2-bedrom apartment, and the price range would be $600-800. She also would like a quiet place. So a little bit away from major roads would be better. Any suggestions?

Is 280 traffic very bad?

I just checked google maps, and saw there is some apartment complex on the Cahaba river road and Action road (the village apartment). They are very close to my wife's company.

Do you guys know the neighborhood is nice here? what's the rent range?

Appreciate your help!

280 traffic can be quite bad at times (4:30 to 5:45 PM +- especially). Other times it is a breeze. Near the Cahaba should be OK, don't know rents, sorry.

Well, there is a very nice apartment complex at the Summit shopping center, which overlooks 280/459. Essentially, it's behind the shopping center, making it possible for you to walk to the grocery store, movie theater, restaurants, etc. If you're looking for convenience and proximity to work, that would be my choice.

At the same time, I think there are a number of daycare facilities in the area.

Colony woods should have a 2 bedroom under $800. This is just off Cahaba River Rd. Also there is Wood Springs which usually has two bedrooms around $750. The Village at Caldwell Mill usually runs in the 850 range. The Parc at Cahaba I believe has a some available around $850-900.

I know there are some units available at River Place on the Cahaba. They have a nice floor plan for a 2bedroom and 2 bath with a den for around 750-800. All of these will be within 5-10 minutes of the 280/459 intersection.

Hope this helps!
