I just moved to Pelham and I just called the county and told them I needed a recycle bin and they delivered one to me within that week. One thing I can say I found weird though is that they don't recycle glass here. Hope that works for you.

No, because you can get a recycle bin for your single house but not if you are live in an apartment complex. You are on your own.
I called them too!

I'm in a house in Hoover and recycle with the bin provided. However, I also found the lack of glass recycling weird. I called the city to ask why and I was told that they quit doing it quite awhile ago because it was not economically feasible. Apparently no one pays enough for glass? I find that hard to believe and I also think that the city owes the environment and the futue the courtesy of hauling tons of glass somewhere other than the landfill. I tried to find someplace that I could take it myself and there does not seem to be an alternative to just throwing it out which makes me crazy. Any ideas from anyone on how to save our landfills of all the glass that should be recycled?

Till today I could not find any place for glass.
It makes me sick to see that they do not really care about the enviroment here in Alabama or the south. So we are moving to California. They have the best recycling law there.

There was a place in Chattanooga that bought glass, but that outfit quit taking it a couple of years ago. They were the only ones in the region taking it.
Think about it: glass is heavy, which makes it expensive to transport (more gas---get it?). If there is no one who wants to buy glass, then the city can't take it. You may not realize...the city doesn't actually take recyclables. It's a company such as Waste Management that contracts with the city.
Also, if you're in an apartment complex where they don't pick up, check with the city. There are usually some collection sites where you can take recyclables.
Please do some research before you make a broad statement such as "they do not really care about the environment here in Alabama or the south."
Have a nice life in California.
