Default Consider Alabaster!

My wife, myself and 2 boys moved here from Slidell, LA post Hurricane Katrina. We are right next to Helena and Pelham. Helena has been rated #1 place in Alabama although with all the building, there is nothing but 2 lane roads to get you through Helena- traffic is horrible. We have great schools, great sports programs, a church on every corner, and low crime, easy access to the interstate and a new shopping complex- Colonial Promonade if your wife is into shopping. Plus Cityfest, a yearly city festival which features free concerts etc- this keeps getting bigger year after year. We have multiple golf courses, if you are into fishing, Lay Lake is right down the road. For your housing budget, you can easily get a 4 br split level with basement- around 2800 sq feet living area. Homeowners would run you about 1000/year, property taxes would run you about that much as well per year. (I am not a real estate agent by the way) You can't go wrong with Alabaster. Don't even consider Trussville- it's in Jefferson County, taxes are twice as much. If you have any questions, e-mail at fingerpickingm@yahoo.com.

I'm sorry. I realize I am really late to respond on this topic but I just couldnt resist.

You tell someone not to move to Trussville but to move to Alabaster instead? Alabaster is the dumpiest city in Shelby County. Let's stick to giving GOOD advice to people please.

Also, you said that Jefferson County's taxes were twice as much. I looked it up and Alabaster residents pay the same property taxes as Trussville residents but Trussville residents have a much better quality of life.

Of all the known cities in Shelby, Alabaster is the least attractive with the lowest quality housing. It is a ghetto waiting to happen.

Our opinions on a location or issue are just that, opinions. Highly subjective. Personal preferences. Quirks, even. Leave wiggle room for dialogue, others may not see things the same as you, or been there as long as you, and any one of us can be wrong. Pouncing on someone you disagree with runs contrary to the spirit of this board and its members. We are here to help each other.

Hi there Steve,

I noticed on your profile that it seems you chose Chelsea as the place for you and your family to relocate. I also live in Chelsea and was just curious how you and your family like it so far??
