Am considering a job in Trussville and looking at homes in the 150ish price range and within a 30 minute drive of there. Very little in St Clair County, but a couple around Pinson. Jefferson County, however, on paper and from a distance appears to be a basket case. It takes a special kind of incompetence to bankrupt a municipality, but they have done it. I am a little apprehensive about living under such a government, and would like to hear from some that do. How bad/good is it? What kind of insanity and/or micromanagement would I be subjecting myself to?

Jefferson County emerged from bankruptcy several years ago. The bankruptcy was due to the fact that the previous county commission took all kinds of bribes to finance a massive sewer upgrade with disadvantageous financing. Most went to prison. Today, the JeffCo Commission is a much better bunch and the county is in better shape.

Yeah, I wouldn't have a problem living in unincorporated Jefferson County these days. Your dollar will go further up there than in the city limits of Hoover, Homewood, etc.
