There are usually hidden treasures in different neighborhoods, and in Ensley it’s Village Creek Trail (Ensley Greenway). The completed Ensley Greenway is the start of a larger trail system that’s 2.5 miles long between Avenue F to Avenue W. The greenway is almost complete, but is open for visitors.
The 2.5 mile Ensley Greenway which is a part of the 21+ mile Village Creek Trail of the Red Rock Regional Trail System is now open to public. The final infrastructure work including installation of light fixtures and electric is now ongoing. The City of Birmingham and ALDOT are the two lead agencies on the implementation of this project.

Good to see. I hope some decent mileage of the Red Rock System is linked together in the not too distant future.

I went on some of the regional trails this past holiday weekend. Yes the Ensley Greenway is paved in portions, but gravel pavers and compacted gravel in other portions. Also the Jones Valley Trail of the Red Rock trail system has an immense amount to potential to further stimulate development in eastern portions of the City. There are some signs of work extending the trail beyond the current terminus at Sloss Furnaces. Once Jones Valley, Vulcan, and Village Creek trails are complete there will definitely some additional stimuli to induce more development and redevelopment within the City along these trail.

I'm excited about the progress of the RRTS. Here's a cool interactive map that shows its progress.
