Red face relocating to Alabaster, need a Home!!

We will be moving to Alabaster around July. We are planning on renting for now. We have four children ages 1-6yrs. So we will be needing to check into to schools and preschools. I have heard from several people that Shelby county has an excellent school system!! But what I really need help with is finding a home. If any one has any information, advice, tips, etc, PLEASE let me know!!

You might be better off going to Helena. It's a little closer in, has plenty of homes, a good school system, and closer to a lot of amenities. Plus it's not far from Alabaster.

al.com - Everything Alabama is the Birmingham News' online site. You can check their classifieds section for listings. Hope that helps.

Good luck!

You should be able to have a pretty good selection of rentals in Alabaster. I would look at al.com as mentioned earlier.

The Helena/Alabaster area is a great place for younger families with kids, and the school system really is fantastic! The schools are racially diverse, with high standards and great teachers, but not the "snobbiness" and intense competition that you find in some really good school systems.

If you're looking for a good elementary school, my personal recommendation would be to find a home zoned for Meadowview Elementary in Alabaster. I've had children in a few schools around here, and Meadowview would definitely be my choice for my own. Helena United Methodist and Pelham First Baptist have great preschool programs, as well. Good luck!

Right now, there are several homes in pre-foreclosure that some of the owners are willing to rent them out to keep them from going into foreclosure. It depends on the amount of rent that you want to pay.
