Are "Hamburger Heaven's" Burgers Really Heavenly?
I am thinking of using a "junk food" day, next trip to B-ham, and checking "Hamburger Heaven" out.
Are they really "Birmingham's best burger?" Their burger sauce is now available in metro Atlanta. It reminds me a whole lot of a famous national steak sauce that has the number "57" in it's name. Is this what comes on their burgers? Just curious...
We have some awesome burgers in Atlanta. As far as chains go, I think that "Five Guys" is our best right now. We will see how Birminham's burger institution compares.

Birmingham (actually Homewood, but basically Birmingham) has a Five Guys in one of those new "fake main street" mall set-ups they have everywhere, off Shades Creek Parkway, but as for local chains I'm more partial to Milo's, who also have their own special sauce which I like more than the Hamburger Heaven sauce. Al's in Southside also has good hamburgers and fries, but they're more of a Mediterranean-type place.

I'm more partial to Milo's, too. But it really is an acquired taste. Either you love Milos or you hate it.
On the other hand, I haven't tried Al's. Where is that?

On 10th Avenue South at the corner with 17th St I think... 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, there's always UAB kids hanging out there. It's like a better Purple Onion if you've been there. Their fries are really good.

There's big buildings going up in the quaint downtown, so it's a little less "quaint" now and also pricier to live in with the gradual demolition of the cheap apartments by the police station that are becoming big expensive condo buildings... Milo's sauce sort of tastes like barbeque sauce, I guess.

It IS a shed and is a local favorite - called 'Chicago Mike's' hot dogs. Next time you are in town, give it a try....Birmingham is loaded with hot dog joints that are located in urban buildings and are about 12 feet wide. Local legends...

I love Hamburger Heaven. The burgers rock. I would also check out Milo's. The first time I had a burger there, I hated it. The next time I loved it. Someone earlier posted that you either hate it or love it and I agree. Man this thread is making me hungry!
